Cetearyl alcohol
Cetearyl alcohol is a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohol a triglyceride which can be a little more gentle than cetyl alcohol, hence it often finds itself used in mild formulations and baby care products.
Characteristics
Cetearyl alcohol gives viscosity improving properties to products and so normally finds itself used in creams, lotions and cleansers, although it can be used in shower and bath products also. More mild than cetyl alcohol, it can be used to impair a beautiful viscosity and stability to your products though you will still need to use an emulsifier and / or thickener in your product. Adding Cetearyl alcohol can make the difference between a good product and a brilliant product.
The myth about alcohol in cosmetics
The word alcohol, when used in relation to the ingredients in cosmetic chemistry is different to the fermented alcohol you find in beverages and shouldn't be confused, therefore it is fine for use in products used by Muslims that wish to avoid alcohol and not the alcohol meant in religion.
