French Green Clay is one of the most majestic, most effective, and most commonly used mineral skin clays found in high end cosmetic skincare.

The fine clay is silky soft to touch and readily absorbs water and other ingredients to create a paste.

French Green Clay (AKA Illite Clay or Sea Clay) contains a cornucopia of valuable elements, which include montmorillonite, illite and Kaolin.

In addtion there are several important mineral oxides, magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosporous, silicon, copper, and selenium.

Green clay owes its coloration to two very important factors.

1) The level of iron oxides

2) The level of decomposed plant matter.

French Green Clay makes a wonderful clay mask base. The simple addition of a little water to the green clay makes a perfect drying mask. You can then further enhance this with the use of essential oils and carrier oils to produce a custom mask which is rich in mineral content and highly effective in removing impurities from the skin.

Despite the name, not all French clay comes from France. It also comes from several other European countries as well as China.

Originally the French controlled the markets throughout the world, hence how French Green Clay got it's name. Over time, however other countries have come to produce the same clay, and it has become a term that has stuck.
